SQUID ATTACK! (Week 2.)

Freaky Chin. (Week 2.)

Rough Eyeballs and ear buds. (Week 2.)

Revamping an older package design piece for head phones for skaters. Grungy look work for anyone?

Blind Contour Birds (Week 2.)

Blockey! (Week 2.)

More indicative of the simple cartoony stuff I draw.

Alien Face (Week 2.)

Not sure if this one counts or not...as I've been messing around with it for a few weeks now. I usually do flat illustrations, so I've been trying to branch out with digital painting. That..and aliens are fun to draw.

Rude Santa (Week 2.)

....Santa can be mean and look like a lumber jack.

Wood Block Eye (Week 2)

I wanted to see if I could fake a wood block print with a wacom tablet. Kind of works, I think.

Week 2

Hey Folks. Week one was filled with alot of charcoal illustrations done manually. For a change of pace, this week will feature more heavily upon digital illustration. While my brush tool in photoshop has gone to hell and back..deciding it will be fuzzy no matter what, I managed to spend some time at my friend John's house over the weekend and borrowed his tablet to get these done for you all. I hope you enjoy some ridiculous doodles.

Charcoal Emancipation (Week 1.)

Return of the illustrated Man. (Week 1.)

Totem Face. (Week 1.)

Cartoon Mouths. (Week 1.)

Charcoal is a messy medium. (Week 1.)

The eyes are everywhere! (Week 1.)

Peepers and Speakers. (Week 1.)

Charcoal Octopus. (Week 1.)

Dolls in charcoal. Speed sketch. (Week 1.)

Babies, Robots, and Businessmen. Oh my! (Week 1.)

Dream of a style to come, and a broken neck. (Week 1.)

The picture on the left of the little man with a smirk on his face is a character done by Alberto Cerriteno. He is an amazing illustrator and one of my biggest influences. By reproducing his work I hope to understand the thought process behind his style and to better evolve my own. Reproductions like this won't be common in the blog here. This is a rare occurrence due to Alberto's amazing ability to motivate me to draw more than I already do.

Unrequited Love and Nude Old Men. (Week 1.)

Nothing says fun like a kitty cat in an antique diver's bell snuggling up to some sushi, and old men with hairy chests.

Temples, Prayers, and Contours. (Week 1.)

Cartoon eyes and wooden dolls. (Week 1.)

Film Majors and Totem Monsters. (Week 1.)

The man behind the jellyfish.

Hi everyone, Matt Covington here. While most of you may know me through school and Illustration 2, I wanted to drop in and kind of let people know what to expect from this blog. There will be a good deal of doodles and illustrations with hopefully a few high quality polished ones each week.  Most of it..probably won't make a lick of sense as I tend to just pour things out onto the page without thinking about them unless it is a particularly specific piece. Be warned,  as my header up above shows, I like to draw aquatic life quite often. So, while I toned it back alot for the first week, expect a quite a few octopi, jellyfish, and pirate babies. I dunno, something about them having semi-free form amorphous shapes make them entertaining to draw. Nothing says fun like a chubby baby with an eye patch fighting a giant squid atop a coral reef.

Illustration 2

Howdy, Matt Covington here...though the giant picture of a jellyfish with my name under it at the top of the page probably already informed you of such.  I look forward to showing all of you the numerous random doodles that I do throughout each week, and hopefully here and there some pictures that will truly be worth while.
